Coastal Cleanup Day Reflection

On Saturday, September 19th, EarthTeam Interns from Richmond High and Pinole Valley High came together for our first field event of the year. Interns worked alongside one another and three firefighters fromStation 70 at our our Coastal Cleanup Site at the NorthRichmond Ballpark.

Getting into the dry part of the creek to pull out tires that were dumped there with the help of Station 70 firefighters

I liked participating in the Coastal Cleanup Day at the North Richmond Ballpark because I liked actively doing something to make out city a cleaner and better place. This event helped me become familiar with a few of the other EarthTeam members from both Richmond High and Pinole Valley High Schools. The event also made me realize that I can actually do something about trash in our city by getting out there and picking it up. A piece of advice that I would give to someone thinking about joining EarthTeam would be to get ready to be dirty, wear sunscreen, and to wear bug repellent because you will be going outside!

It was exciting to have the firefighters helping us. I learned that its important to keep the creek water clean because contaminants that get into the creek will eventually end up in the ocean. I also earned to work together because when you divide and conquer you finish the work faster.

Valeria with a yet another full bag of trash! We filled over 23 bags of trash in one day. No including the 9 tires we found.
